Aqib Secures PhD Seat for Research on Indo-Pak Cyber & Autonomous Warfare at SCALSAR, SIU

Syed Aqib Hussain, a criminal & constitutional lawyer and author from J&K, has secured admission to the prestigious PhD programme at SCALSAR (Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research)—a leading legal research think tank under SCRI (Symbiosis Centre for Research & Innovation) at SIU (Symbiosis International University). The programme is hosted at Symbiosis Law School Pune, consistently ranked among India’s top five law institutes.
Aqib qualified the highly competitive entrance test, which selects only a handful of candidates internationally, and subsequently cleared a rigorous interview conducted by an eminent panel of Deans, Directors, and senior faculty members of National Law Universities (NLUs) and Symbiosis Law School Pune. He also holds an LL.M. in Criminal Law and Cyber Security, and previously served as the elected President and Cultural Secretary of The Law School, University of Jammu.
After attending the induction at SIU Lavale, he has commenced his coursework at SLS Pune. His doctoral research, “Indo-Pak Cyber & Autonomous Warfare: Decoding the Efficacy of Indian Modus Operandi vis-à-vis the Potency of the Regulatory Regime and Strategic Clique—Intersecting IHL,” explores the rapidly advancing realm of AI-enabled warfare, cross-border cyber conflict, and international humanitarian law. Aqib’s selection marks a distinguished academic milestone, placing him at the forefront of one of the most strategically consequential research domains of the contemporary era, under the able leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Jean Monnet Chair Professor, Fulbright Scholar, Director SLS Pune, Dean Faculty of Law SIU, and former Member, Law Commission of India.
